Bear With Us

The problem:
The effects of deforestation cause bears to migrate into suburban neighborhoods.
Data:
Bears are entering urban areas because of habitat loss, drought, and accessible food.
Drought has resulted in large amounts of deforestation.
Eating from dumpsters isn’t good for them. Plastic and human refuse can harm bears and even kill them.
Bears in suburbia are bad for humans, too: they cause destruction and fear; bears’ self-defense can be dangerous and even fatal to people and pets.
People are concerned about bears in cities because it’s inconvenient for them, not because bears are suffering.
These areas are the most known for bear sightings in suburban neighborhoods:
LA County (Burbank, La Cañada, Monrovia)
West Hartford, Connecticut
Denver, Colorado
Olympia, Washington
Team Goal:
Create a creative campaign to inform people about why bears are entering suburban areas, how to interact with bears if necessary, and how to prevent bears from visiting homes by changing small daily habits.
